Green laning

BOAT.png

Green lanes or BOAT's (Byway Open to All Traffic) are the UK's holy grail when it comes to 4x4 day trips and longer adventures.

First and foremost is the correct identification of these tracks across OS maps. They are donated by a Green crossed line which span through wooded areas, across fields and through urban areas.

Secondly we need to ensure they are open, and the best way to check the status of BOAT's is to check the council websites, Trailwise and various 4x4 forums that specialize in that particular field.

When out on the ground ensure you are on the right track by looking for the various signs that demarcate the tracks for you.

Salisbury plain has a vast amount of tracks for all abilities but are policed heavily due to the military training area it shares. Ensure you read the Salisbury plain bylaws as there are many that govern this area to protect you and those around you.

The utmost care and attention must be given when traveling along BOAT's as they are in use by everyone and we would like to keep them open for generations to come. A lot of maintenance goes into keeping these tracks open so please respect them.
